If you were asked to take a snapshot of the most important Albertans in the past 12 months, whom would you choose? You'd probably want some titans of industry, a few politicians, a radical thinker or two, maybe even a philanthropist. Really, if you gave it some serious thought you'd probably come up with the same group as we have on the following pages. To assemble our ninth annual list of Alberta's 50 Most Influential People, we combed newspaper headlines, talked to the well-connected and reviewed readers' nominations. The final list includes individuals across a broad range of sectors, but what they all have in common, regardless of whether they head multi-million-dollar oil companies or give millions away, is that they fascinate us and arouse our curiosity. Through their words and actions, these individuals have helped shape Alberta's fortunes. It is with admiration and respect that we provide insight into their lives. |
