Edmonton, Alberta (Feb. 28th 2008) – Alberta Venture magazine, along with presenting sponsors Edmonton Hotels Downtown and Travel Alberta, is recognizing outstanding employers with its inaugural Alberta's Best Workplaces Program. The award-winning organizations are featured in the March issue of Alberta Venture alongside articles on innovative human resource initiatives and best workplace practices. In addition to recognizing benefits, perks and incentives, the awards celebrate Alberta workplaces that best meet the needs of new Canadians, working parents, the environmentally conscious and Millennials, among others.
The winners for the Best Overall Workplace in Alberta are Maxim Group Inc. in the category of 26-100 employees, Aker Kvaerner Process Systems (Canada) Inc. in the category of 101-500 employees and PCL Constructors Inc. in the category of 500 plus employees.
When selecting winners, Alberta Venture's judges looked from every angle to determine which companies create the best environment for employee satisfaction. "An organization can have a great corporate culture and innovative HR policies but what really makes a workplace great is how well it meets an employee's hierarchy of needs," says Michael McCullough, editor of Alberta Venture. The awards highlight notable policies and programs such as RSP contributions, maternity leave top-up, profit sharing, flex-time, and community involvement programs.
"All of the winners go above and beyond industry standards to ensure their employees have fulfilling lives in the workplace and beyond," says McCullough. "It reflects the state of business in Alberta. There's a lot of opportunity here and it creates competition among employers to get the best people. In the end, both the employees and employers benefit."
The awards were presented to winners and finalists at a private reception held at the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton on February 27th, 2008. The complete report and profiles of Alberta's Best Workplaces are available in the March issue of Alberta Venture and will be posted on www.albertaventure.com on March 3rd
