It’s been a devastating year for Fort McMurray. First came thousands of job losses, crushing the local economy. Then, in an almost unspeakable tragedy, residents were forced to flee their homes to escape a massive wildfire. Rebuilding the city will be a monumental task, and it will need all the help Alberta has to offer. For the businesses that will be rebuilding in the city, Fort McMurray’s tax rates are far and away Alberta’s lowest, by a factor of nearly three. That’s helped its economy before, and it’s a key part of what will help it in the future. Fort McMurray will rebuild.
