Nestled in the heart of the badlands, Medicine Hat has made national news over the last few years with its ambitious plan to end all chronic homelessness in the community. While the recent economic downturn has thrown a wrench into this plan, the tight-knit community remains aware of the needs of people in the community during tough economic times – whether that’s a need for shelter, food or work. Though low commodity prices have made it a tough year for Medicine Hat, as it has for most of Alberta, the city is poised to make a strong comeback – its main strength being the ownership of its own natural gas, oil and electricity.
