Brenda Kenny, Age: 57

Influential because: Pipelines are front and centre

Keystone XL. Northern Gateway. Line 9. Every day Canada’s news is filled with discussion of them, their safety and whether or not they should be built. At the centre of the storm are the owners of Canada’s transmission pipelines – names like Enbridge and TransCanada, but also Alliance, Atco, Pembina, Kinder Morgan and Plains Midstream. And at the middle of all of their lobbying and public engagement strategies is Brenda Kenny.

Kenny has served as president and CEO of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association since 2008. In this role she has been instrumental in shaping the industry’s position on the many issues it faces. Kenny also taught at the Haskayne School of Business, is on the board of both the University of Calgary and the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation and is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
