Daryl “Doc” Seaman was a prominent Calgary businessman who passed away in 2009. Just this year, the Calgary Foundation announced that it received a $117-million donation from Seaman upon his death, one of the largest cash gifts in Canadian history. That number will grow as assets continue to be liquidated. The foundation will use the funding to help address issues such as poverty, mental health and aboriginal education, meaning that for many more years, Seaman’s influence will be felt as his gift changes the lives of many Albertans.
