Erum Afsar - Edmonton
Bachelor of Science (Engineering) (Queen’s University)

Erum Afsar sees what most Edmontonian commuters do – that the city needs more investment in public transportation. But unlike most, she’s helping to make it happen. After moving to Edmonton from Calgary, Afsar threw herself into civic issues and ended up as a central cog in the recent LRT expansion, smoothing heretofore controversial rail plans with concerned citizens – and even winning their support. She also encourages ethnic minority groups to participate in the civic process, as well as writing and blogging. As her Twitter feed says, “I prefer an interesting life to a normal life.”
