Every individual on the list is a true Albertan champion and all deserve to be honoured for their contributions to our province. Over 5,000 votes were cast and while there were many prominent contenders, one individual rose to the top.

After two months of voting, John Poole has been named Alberta’s Top Business Person of the Last 100 years. As a former co-owner of Poole Construction Limited (now known as PCL Construction Holdings LTD), John Poole's business acumen helped build PCL into one of North America's largest construction companies. He and his wife's personal contributions to Alberta were equally robust. Their support for Albertan charities, causes, and cultural institutions have seldom been matched in their scope and generosity. Congratulations the Poole family and to PCL group of companies! The March edition of Alberta Venture magazine will feature a profile of John Poole in the Winners Circle section which can also be found online at albertaventure.com. In addition, the full list of Alberta’s top 100 business people will remain online as a both tribute and a resource for readers. We would also like to offer our thanks to everyone that voted and shard their opinion with us. The poll was extremely close and it's clear that this selection of people have left an indelible mark on the lives of Albertans.
