In 2012, Matt Heller, a bassist, founded Calgary Classical Revolutions. He had heard of similar ideas in cities like Chicago and San Francisco, so Heller brought it north, to Calgary. Some classical music performance conventions are kept, such as bowing, while others are broken, such as length – a typical Classical Revolutions night is a series of mini-concerts. “Really, I don’t think it makes sense to talk about classical music’s death,” Heller told the National Music Centre in 2012. “It’s just morphing along with society.”
