Matthew Wildcat - Hobbema
PhD student (University of British Columbia)

While still completing his PhD in political science at UBC, Matthew Wildcat -- who is Plains Cree and a member of the Ermineskin Cree Nation -- continues to work on governance in his community. Most recently he became a board member on the Neyaskweyahk group of companies and was integral in creating a trust that moved $240 million in capital money from federal control to within the First Nation. His scholarly work focuses on settler colonialism and indigenous governance, and a recent paper won the Stankiewicz Memorial graduate prize in political theory.
