Influential because: She sets the curatorial bar
With Calgary’s rise as a centre for business and finance has come its growth as a centre of art and culture. Few inspirations have captured that spirit better than the Esker Foundation, a contemporary art gallery funded by philanthropists and art patrons Jim and Susan Hill. Opened in 2012, the 15,000-square-foot admission-free gallery has quickly become influential among art connoisseurs. At the centre of the Esker is director and curator Naomi Potter. Potter led the artistic development of the Walter Phillips Gallery at the Banff Centre before joining the Esker, and now produces local projects and exhibitions as well as global exhibitions for the Esker.
