Alberta – Calgary in particular – continues to grow as a global centre for banking and finance. As one of the only growth areas in the country it has become a fierce battleground for financial institutions trying to take advantage of the opportunities. BMO Financial Group has launched an aggressive expansion program, and the person chosen to lead the charge is Robert Hayes, the vice-president of the bank’s Alberta and NWT division. Hayes oversees BMO’s 110 branches in the province (and two in the NWT) and has been adding to his senior management ranks, looking to build the bank’s share of both the retail and commercial markets. The company has announced plans to spend $100 million over three years on new and renovated outlets, and on an aggressive marketing strategy.
