Shannon Young is an up-and-comer occupying the most difficult space there is when it comes to law right now – regulatory law. Legal manager, regulatory, with Nexen Energy, Young led legal submissions before regulatory heavyweights like the Alberta Surface Rights Board, the Energy Resources Conservation Board and the National Energy Board. She also led Nexen’s legal arm in its proposal to develop sour gas within city limits and helped ferry CNOOC’s $15.1-billion acquisition of Nexen through the Competition Bureau and Industry Canada. Young is set to become president of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation in 2014.
